Another question

I was chatting on a MB the other day about how R or NC-17 rated fic seems to get more hits, no matter how good or bad the fic actually is.

Which reminded me of another conversation:

As a writer/vidder/artist, have you ever had something you think is ho-hum, or took you 2 seconds to do, be the one thing that everyone went nuts over? And, on the other hand, has your favorite work (or the one you worked the hardest on) been not so well received?

I'm curious to know if it's something that happens a lot. Sort of like your expectations are higher. Or you've tried something different, that not everyone is into.

vidding
Hands down, my favorite is Back 2 Good. But, I did a couple things wrong with it. First, I let my shipper heart get in the way of what could have been a powerful moment (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bonibaru for pointing it out). Second, I pimped it in a Spuffy forum. And it was basically a Spike/Anya vid.

If I can find the source clips again, I might just fix it up. You never know.

fanfiction
Toss up between Premonition and Her Choice. Although I can't claim all the credit for Her Choice, because [livejournal.com profile] annexw wrote a lot of it. They're both written in the same style (I've admitted to [livejournal.com profile] asleeper it's my lazy writing style), but one didn't fly because it's a little weird and the other wasn't a happy ending.

Just thought I'd share :)

Yes, pretty much uh, all the freaking time.

I had never seen Premontion before, but that was very cool. So cool that I reviewed and everything. Yup, and I rarely review... bad me.

I think that this idea is true for most writers. My favorite stories have tended to be my least reviewed. I really liked "The Sound of Her Voice," but that didn't really get a lot of reviews compared to some of my other stories. My favorite for Angel was "Metronome" and the story was the same for that one.

However, the stories that I really can't stand, all for Angel: "The Bet," "Rebuilding," and "If You Want My Body" (that title sucks, it was my first story) all still get reviews. I can barely stand to read them myself.

I don't know why that is though. I think that alot of the times, as a person who writes, we like what was most challenging to us, but most people just want to read stuff that is fun or sexy.
