More thoughts on Buffy

wisteria_ re-posted a very good write up on Buffys behavior, here. That, and everyone else's discussion got me thinking. And it all boils down to:

Buffy doesn't know Spikes soul is permanent.

We do (don't we?). But for her, only one vampire had a soul. He was cursed with it and it's not the sticky kind. I'm thinking she's distancing herself from Spike, because (in her mind) she can't get close to him again. It would be a repeat of Angel. And really, would you want to be around Spike and not be allowed to touch?

Actually, a happy clause for Spikes soul would make for a pretty neat story. He goes and gets the one thing that would allow her love him, but it's also the one thing that makes it impossible for them to "be" together.


It made perfect sense in my head.

Actually, I'd hate that. It'd be too much like Angel. The only reason Buffy & Angel didnt' stay together was teh 'happiness' clause. If Spike had the same thing, B&S would be in the same boat as B/A, and they'd never get together again either. I think its bettter this way, because now the only thing separating Buffy and Spike are their own emotional problems & insecurities, and if they could learn to trust again, they'd be able to be happy-- for as long as they chose to stay together.

I do wonder if you're right about Buffy thinking there's a clause, though. They never did clarify that.

Yeah, I don't want it to happen on the show either. Been there, done that. I was thinking more along the tragic fanfic lines. The kind of thing I won't read 'cause the guy and girl don't live happily ever after.

ah... tragedy fic. also known as: Angst. :) Yeah, I can see the draw in that, but that's the beauty of fanfic---anything goes. Even some stuff that shouldn't (like B/G--ewww).
